How to Cut the New PMI HeatShield™ with Technora®

Friday, November 14th, 2014

Cutting Heatshield™ is different than cutting other ropes. Technora® is extremely tough. If you wish to cut the rope, traditional rope cutters will not work. Technora® doesn’t melt so hot knifes do not work. The recommended procedure is to wrap the rope with 2 layers of 3/4” – 1” wide tape at the desired cut point and using heavy, extremely sharp scissors cut in the center of the tape in a circumferential progressing manner. This will prevent excess fraying at the cut. Finishing the cut ends with heat shrink tubing (http://shop.pmirope.com/3-4-id-shrink-tube-ft-rc48008) placed over the remaining tape will prevent most fraying issues.
