A Great Occasion for Safety at Height

Saturday, November 15th, 2014

The Asia-Pacific rope access community made history this week with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between 6 countries, pledging joint cooperation toward advancement and promotion of the mutual interests of rope access safety through training, professional competence and continual improvement in rope access processes and procedures.
Representatives from rope access organizations throughout the region, including Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, and Taiwan joined together in the agreement with Singapore for the mutual benefit of the entire rope access community. The Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) was privileged to be present to witness this momentous occasion.
As part of the agreement, these organizations have agreed to mutually recognize different levels of rope access technician competency in accordance with ISO 22846 Code of Practice for Rope Access. In addition, the organizations will work together to jointly develop and publish professional, technical, and training guidelines, and to cooperate in professional events and activities including seminars, conferences, workshops, networking sessions, and more.
The Singapore Rope Access Association, under direction of Chairman Mr. Eric Soon, established an excellent reference point for future efforts by serving as host of the Rope Access Management Seminar, where the Memorandum was signed. The one day seminar provided informative and educational lectures and presentations for the benefit of rope access managers and practitioners who were present.
Mr. Eric Soon of Singapore Rope Access Association, and representative members of the Australian Rope Access Association, are to be commended for their outstanding efforts in engaging this cooperative effort.
