Introducing Heidi Wirtz! – PMI’s newest Vertical Specialist with a focus on Sport Climbing

With over 35 years of technical excellence in rope manufacturing and actively participating in research, testing, and standards relating to climbing equipment, no other company knows ropes and gear better than PMI.

PMI’s Vertical Specialist program is designed to allow the experienced specialist to become involved with PMI in developing new and improved gear through field testing products and providing feedback to product development.

Heidi Wirtz is one of the country’s few prominent female adventure climbers. She has been climbing for over twenty years, letting her passion for adventure and exploration lead her to places such as Nepal, Morocco, Jordan, Siberia, Tasmania, Czech Republic, Eastern Europe, Pakistan, South America, Canada etc. Heidi has pioneered new routes up unclimbed big walls and mountains and pushed the limits of female exploration. She is known in the United States as Heidi Almighty for her bold and technical climbing as well as speed ascents in Yosemite Valley. Heidi is also known for her philanthropic work and her passion for yoga. She is co-founder of Girls Education International, an organization that helps bring education to women and girls in underserved areas throughout the world. Heidi inspires and empowers people from all walks of life to find deeper awareness and follow their dreams.

Some of Heidi’s notable first ascents include: Bad Hair Day IV 5.12a in the Bugaboos; Qui Lombo IV 5.11+ A1 on San Rafael in Patagonia; Pufigu IV 5.12b in the Sayan Mountains in Siberia; and Dar al salam IV 13a in Wadi Rum, Jordan.

Some of Heidi’s notable hardest climbs include: The Wasp in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, I 5.13a (trad); Milk Bone at the Flatirons in Boulder, CO, I 5.13- (sport); Gold Dog Special (FFA Team) Black Canyon of the Gunnison, CO, V 5.13a; and Fish Crack in Yosemite Valley, CA, 5.12b, onsight.

Born in Sacramento, CA, Heidi currently lives in Boulder, CO. In addition to her philanthropic work, Heidi has also been featured in numerous outdoor publications and has appeared in several climbing films.

Introducing Truc Allen! – PMI’s newest Vertical Specialist with a focus on Sport Climbing

With over 35 years of technical excellence in rope manufacturing and actively participating in research, testing, and standards relating to climbing equipment, no other company knows ropes and gear better than PMI.

PMI’s Vertical Specialist program is designed to allow the experienced specialist to become involved with PMI in developing new and improved gear
through field testing products and providing feedback to product development.

Truc Allen brings over twenty years of outdoor experiences including 20+ years of sport climbing, 17 years of whitewater kayaking, 10 years of cave guiding, and 7 years of design/development at ropes courses. Some of Truc’s notable achievements in climbing include his most difficult redpoint – the 13b Haul of Flame at Jacks Canyon, and his most difficult onsight – the 12b Ministry at New River Gorge.

From 1994 to 2008, Truc guided, trained and directed at Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing Adventure Center where among other responsibilities; he was both a climbing and caving instructor. In 2003, Truc also did some bouldering development in central Vietnam’s Ninh Thuan Province. Currently, Truc is the owner of Truc Allen Media, a company that specializes in outdoor life photography.

Born in Vietnam, Truc moved to Roanoke, VA where he grew up, attended college at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ, and currently lives with his wife in Seattle, WA.

Re-Introducing Kitty Calhoun! – One of PMI's Famous Vertical Specialists

PMI’s Vertical Specialist program is designed to allow the experienced specialist to become involved with PMI in developing new and improved gear
through field testing products and providing feedback to product development.

Kitty Calhoun depends on PMI rope for her work as a climbing guide as well as in her endless pursuit of climbing goals and dreams. Kitty was a rock instructor for Outward Bound in 1982, a guide for the American Alpine Institute from 1985 – 1990, and she has guided numerous 19,000’ to 22,000’ peaks in Alaska, Argentina, Bolivia, Nepal, and Peru over the past years.
